Ohh Yogi’s,

Today was a big day. It was the final day in our 6 week session. And while for many people it was their 3rd time through, for some it was their first 6 hours of this thing we call “Yoga Therapy”. But we had some moments where the bigger picture got a bit more clear and we could see the lightbulbs go off.

One class started to really realize that taking small moments throughout our day to tune in for a few breaths and rebalance ourselves, even if just into Tadasana/Mountain Pose/Standing Up and softening there, breathing there, feeling how in or out of balance we are – can be a hugely powerful way to continue to align. We mold our neuroplasticity in the direction of healing. And we catch our habits that contribute to our discomfort. Asking “what do I need right now” and following through with the simple requests we receive from within.

Another group noticed that at the beginning of class when we ask “what can you do to help alleviate some of your discomfort” our brains go through the rolodex of things we have learned, read, studied, heard a doctor tell us – all external knowledge. Our brains try and come up with an answer of what we can do to move toward healing – and if our brains could answer that question with the knowledge that we have compiled over the years – we would be healed, because lets face it, you are an educated bunch of people.

But after an hour, after we have moved slowly, gently, in-tune with the non-verbal messages from within, with movement that was supportive, instinctive, and helpful, we seemed to be coming from a different place, not from the rolodex in our brains, but the wisdom our culture has never taught us to pay attention to. Something more intuitive, internal, unspoken.

THIS IS IT. This is the whole thing. The whole point of what I call Yoga Therapy. It is this invitation to listen, to respond, to acknowledge a wisdom that doesn’t come from a textbook.

And….

As you learn to listen, you will hear more. As you hear more you will be able to more aptly chose how to respond. Your ability as you inquire and test new things will increase. You will further hone your Response, you will further expand your Ability. Do you see those two words? Response. Ability. Look again, at how you are beginning to take RESPONSIBILITY in a whole new direction – INWARD, to a whole new place of wisdom. Your Responsibility for your own health more and more within your own grasp, understanding, awareness, knowledge. I LOVE IT.

So to my peeps…. no new movements or inquiries this week. Just play with the sheets and handouts and audio meditations that I have sent. There is a long break until we meet again in May, so without a teacher you have a greater responsibility to play with this and maintain the gains you have made without our weekly meeting. I am so appreciating your questions, your ah-ha’s, your wisdom. Thank you for trusting me on this journey.
